When Going Out of Business Becomes a Business Model
Once located at 289 W 2nd Ave, Hansen House and Home Decor was known as “the business that always goes out of business,” this quirky retailer mastered the art of the perpetual closeout sale. For years, colorful posters plastered its windows, announcing the latest “final” sale, only for the store to remain open, much to the bemusement of the neighborhood. After all, they didn’t just pull this trick at one location as it was their signature move more than once. But all good things must end, and on February 24, 2020, the store finally followed through on its promise and shut its doors for good.
In a twist of fate, the exact location also housed The Bin Sin Sports Grill, another business that ultimately met the same fate in recent years. Now, the once-bustling 30,000 square feet of space is in the hands of developers, ready for its next chapter. One can only hope the new occupants will stick around a little longer.
